According to Dorothea and Michael Jappe, he initially played oboe in a military band. Later he was concertmaster in the employ of the Prince of Homburg in Ahnalt. From around 1800 he lived in Hanau, where he died in 1814 (some sources give 1819 as year of death). He wrote a number of compositions for the viola d'amore, and those extant are preserved at the National Library of Portugal in Lisbon.
