Pianist, conductor and composer. Active in the musical life of Dusseldorf from 1848. Founder member of the political-artistic club Malkasten. Long-serving successor to Schumann as city music director 1854-1889. Performed in a piano trio with Wilhelm Joseph von Wasielewski and Christian Reimers.
