He was a Bavarian military musician from 1844 to 75, rising to the rank of Obermusikmeister. In 1864 in Munich he conducted the band at Richard Wagner's wedding in the Hofgarten of Ludwig II's Residenz. From 1875 he worked in a school in Nuremberg.
