Death date from obituary in The Border Magazine: An Illustrated Monthly, Volume 33. There is a detailed obituary in 'The Berwick Advertiser', 27th October 1927. Nesbitt was born in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland and studied music locally and in Glasgow. Despite having lost a finger of his left hand as a child he learned to play the flute, piano, violin, organ and various brass instruments, and became a bandmaster at 15 years old. He worked for the last 30 years of his life in Oban, where he was director of music at Oban High School and organist at St. Columba's Church. He became interested in the music and folklore of the western Highlands and Hebridean islands of Scotland, and is compositions were influenced by this.
