A mysterious composer, lived circa or before 1838, maybe in XVIII,or even XVII century. One (XIX century) source places by his name date 1680 with a cross (died 1680, since born 1680 would be "*1680"): Sammlung von drei- und vierstimmigen Volksgesängen. But it's rather doubtful.
Only few works by him are known. Not a single trace of information about him has survived already by 1850s. Not a single dictionary of musicians old or new mentions his name. Some critics doubt that such a composer existed at all and note that two of his works might be identical to Jesu, Salvator Mundi and Parce Domine by Bartolomeo Cordans.

In this case, there is quite a suspicion he is the same as Martin-Joseph Mengal, an acquaintance of Meyerbeer.
