Brother of Charles Kunkel. With his brother, brought to the US in 1848 from the Palatinate region of what is now Germany, and lived in the US, mostly St Louis Missouri, from then on; they founded Kunkel Brothers.
The name Jean Paul is more likely to be a pseudonym of his brother Charles Kunkel.
