Conductor of first complete performance of Paul Hindemith's Konzertmusik, Op.48 on Sept 22, 1930 in Graz. From 1938 to 1944 he was principal conductor of the Munich Philharmonic. He made efforts to secure performances of the works of his contemporaries Johann Nepomuk David (1895-1977) and Franz Schmidt (1874—1939). His post-war career was ruined by his membership in the NSDAP. For a discussion of this question, see German Wikipedia.
