Richard Jones was an obscure musician of the eighteenth century about whom very little is known. He became the leader of the orchestra at Drury Lane Theatre about 1730, and presumably spent most of his life as a professional violinist. His date of birth is unknown, but his death was announced in the 'Daily Advertiser' on 20th of January 1744. Among his pupils was Michael Festing, who succeeded him as leader at Drury Lane.
