Detailed biography: Wikipedia article (in Dutch) ; possibly Biographisch woordenboek der Nederlanden, deel 4. Johan Arnold Dahmen (he often anglicised it to John Arnold Dahmen) was part of a large musical family (Wilhelm Dahmen was the father). He is not to be confused with Arnoldus Dahmen (1768-1829), his younger brother and a flautist, who settled in Amsterdam; Fétis, 1836
Baptised 9 March 1766. Seems to have been traditional then but not universal to baptise people within a month of birth (when possible). Born in the Hague, died in London in early September (either 3rd or 4th) 1812, and buried in the church-yard of St. Andrew Undershaft, St. Mary Axe on 5 September 1812. Some sources have "JA Dahmen (1766–1813)." (e.g. Cowgill, Holman Music in the British provinces, 1690-1914 page 186.). New Grove, and other sources, erroneously give Dahmen's death as 1794. (There were at least two Johan Arnold Dahmens: one a harpist, one a cellist; this was the cellist, who was the uncle of the harpist.)
