Eldest brother of François Cupis de Renoussard (1732-1808) and apparently one Francois Cupis de Camargo (1719-1764). Compositions often misattributed between the Cupis composers, who are rarely named in full on title-pages. One way of telling them apart is by the author's printed address: Op.1 (1738) gives Rue de Richelieu chez Mr. Gagne Beigneur; Opp.2 and 3 give Rue Neuve des petits Champs à côtée de l'Hotel St. Pouenge.
