According to Joubert's biographical notes, Louis Boyer was born in Sigoulès (Dordogne); he studied music with his uncle, chanoine Boyer, then with Camille Doney (piano), Joseph Bonnet (organ), Amédée Gastoué (plain-chant) and Vincent d'Indy (composition).
