Charles Valentine Boult came to Australia in 1912 and settled in Sydney, and taught violin at the Conservatorium of music. He was also a member of the Conservatorium Orchestra and toured Australia and New Zealand with M. Henri Verbrughen's orchestra. Later he moved to Launceston where he was a well known violin teacher for many years. On several occasions he gave concert recitals frequently for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Mr Boult was a cousin of the conductor Sir Adrian Boult, a former Director of music for the BBC and a conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr Boult was also a teacher of the French language.
One of his scores Eldorado: song [manuscript] / music by Charles Boult; words by Edgar Allan Poe. Composed 31/12/1932. [4] p. “Inscribed to Ruth Burcham.” Cover inscribed: “Frida with love from Charles Feb. 1933” is held by the University of Adelaide in the Elder Conservatorium.
