Miscellaneous information
A once-famous society entertainer. He originally started as a civil servant, but after 1892, he became so successful in the entertainment industry that he went full time. He was top of the bill until attending a Christian mission in 1905, after which he converted and completely retired from entertaining. He lived the rest of his life a devout Christian; this was not a rash decision. He firstly grew tired of playing a fool and being the clown, with him being in a state of misery during his stage years. After giving up the stage as well as drink, tobacco, and billiards, his mood greatly improved, with those around him saying he was a different person. He himself said that he was never happier. His choice was greatly influenced by his Christian mother, who grew up in the London slums. She spoke greatly of her joy, which he never understood until following her devout Christian lifestyle. He successfully stayed out of the limelight until his death in 1933.
