Cadite montes is a ′dialogue′ for soprano and bass from Harmonia d'affetti devoti, Op.3 (1655). Dialogues were frequently in the nature of a conversation between characters (who are sometimes named, though not in this instance) and often allegorical in nature: in this case, the bass crying out in misery, the soprano encouraging repentance.
