Aweful Portent is a purposeful misspelling. The portent is both "awe filled" and "awful". Jesus is coming back as He left -- in the clouds with His angels. He will be preceeded by the most awful event in history: The Great Tribulation. He will come to judge the nations and its people and to take us Christians to our reward. The photos here are artists depictions of course. We cannot understand how it is possible, but every eye will see Him (Revelation 1:7). If you don't see Him, then He hasn't come, regardless of the teachings of the various cults throughout history. But then it will be too late for you to repent. No music can do justice to the truths of God, so this is just a fanciful, fun piece, as are all of my works regarding God. There is no "acceptable" musical style so the "style" of this music is irrelevant to such an abstract topic. In no way do I attempt to create a mood that matches the message. No composer can do it though composers love to write Tone Poems. God is glorified by the faith of His composers and the quality of their music, not by the style of their music.
Musically speaking, this piece was composed using Finale software, controlling my Ensoniq EPS via MIDI cables. I had sampled 8 short sounds that I made with my mouth. In this piece I used 5 of them: sustained voice (singing); humming while whistling; vocalizing while breathing in; sustained whistle; and sustained z sound. The other 3 sounds are humming, wind sound, and a sustained zh sound (like found in the word "measure"). I added a sampled sound that someone made for the EPS called Comet Bomb. For each of these samples I used the EPS to loop the end of the sound so it could be sustained indefinitely. For each of these sounds I created an instrument in the EPS that contained 4 different "patches" and "pressure" that are manipulations of the original sample. The EPS has a pitch wheel and a mod wheel. I made use of the mod wheel to also alter parameters that are applied to the sounds (low frequency oscillator, frequency modulation, etc.) I made use of these as well as of the patches by programming Finale to send MIDI requests to the EPS. I discovered that these instruments would produce a wide variety of sound-effects depending upon the pitch and pressure, as well as the mod wheel. And, I created graphics in Finale to manipulate MIDI data over time.
