  • According to the preface to vol. IX/27/1 of the Neue Mozart Ausgabe (p.xxiii), this is a variant of the Variations on an Arietta (H.155, Wq.118/2), although there is some doubt as to whether Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach himself was responsible for this version. According to Grove Music, Georg Christoph Wagenseil (1715-1777) is one possibility.
