This is a passacaglia. I wrote the ground bass and some of the beginning chords in the 1970s. In 2006 I completed it by improvising the rest in Finale after assigning the MIDI instrument program 90. This piece started as a vibraphone ensemble. Recently I decided that since I was using a MIDI vibraphone, that it might sound good with other MIDI instruments that have no relation to real musical instruments. I then greatly expanded the piece and used some Finale features to make it sound other-worldly. This allowed me to experiment with harmonies that these instruments could play that would not be available to real instruments.
