This "urtext" or "scholarly" (scientific) edition is in the public domain because it was published at least 25 years ago for most of the EU (20 years ago in Italy, 30 years ago in Poland) over 25 years ago for the former USSR. Such editions are also public domain in Canada because they fail to meet the minimum 'threshold of originality' to qualify for copyright as an 'adaptation'. They may not be public domain elsewhere. Extra Information This work was left incomplete at Tchaikovsky's death. While originally intended as the second and third movements of his Piano Concerto No.3, the composer extracted the first movement as a separate work. Sergey Taneyev reconstructed the remaining two movements from the composer's sketches and published both the full score and reduction for two pianos in 1897 with M.P. Belaieff.
The piano part was later embelished by Sergey Taneyev (first performance of this version: 1898-10-29 - Moscow; first publication: 1948 Moscow: Muzyka (in vol.62 of Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Complete Collected Works, p.137–202). Plate M. 19604 Г.)
