Deutsch notes that both piano pieces, inscribed as "Allegro Ng I" and "Menuetto Ng H", were written by an unknown hand and do not include a composer's name. At the end of the second page, after the final note of the minuet, there is an indication "Volti Trio". However, the trio, which would have apparently followed on the next page, is missing. The work was first published privately as a "Fragment of a Sonatine" ("pro manuscripto") in 1967 by Reinhard van Hoorickx (1918-1997), who composed performing versions for many of Schubert's unfinished works. However, contrary to Hoorickx's assumption, the work was later determined to have been composed by someone other than Schubert.
