Albert Rathke published music in Magdeburg, a city on the Elbe just West of Berlin, from 1879. Much of the firm's output consisted of songs, many of them patriotic in the spirit of the time, by Gustav Adolf Schaper, Otto Findeisen, and Hermann Richter. The only works to have remained in use up to the present are many works for young violinists by Friedrich Seitz. Heinrichshofen's Verlag, the leading publisher in Magdeburg, acquired the firm in 1912.
