Composer and publisher Albert M. Schacht (fl.1868–1886) established his music publishing firm in 1868 first operating out of his home at 175 Allen Street in New York. By 1877 the firm (apparently the "& Co." consisted of Ernst C. Zilm) was operating at 230 6th Street. By the early 1880s the firm made a final move to 67 East 4th Street near the Bowery. As a publisher Schacht specialized in dance music, medley overtures, and operatic selections scored for theater/dance orchestras and brass bands. It also issued piano versions of its orchestral offerings. In addition to Schacht's own compositions the firm issued original works and arrangements by New York City musicians, including: G. Weingarten, Daniel Wiegand, Emil Boettger, and Henry Wannemacher.
Schacht died in 1886 or 1887 and the firm continued under the management of his son Robert Schacht until being sold in early 1888 to the Standard Music Company of 55 East 4th Street.
