Deutsch notes that the work was first published in the "Musikalische Neuigkeiten für Freunde des Gesangs und Fortepiano's," Breslau, in November of 1810, under the title "Seven Easy Variations, Comp. By Schubert." However, there are no documents or reports of Schubert's relatives or friends that provide any information as to a work of his published that year- he was only 13 at the time and his first published works would appear much later, towards the end of that decade. In addition, he did not seem to have any connection with the publisher. Because of this, it is not possible to determine whether the "Schubert" who is mentioned in the title of the print actually refers to the Franz Schubert in Vienna.
