Navigation etc.

In 1924–25, Nielsen composed melodies to Anton Berntsen's poems written in the Jutland dialect. Not much is known about the genesis of the compositions. Though Nielsen did not conceive the four songs as an entity they were, nevertheless, published as a collection in 1941. However, Nielsen must have been engaged with Berntsen's authorship even earlier, since Æ Lastræ was performed in 1913. It seems probable that the concert singer Anker Olesen might have encouraged Nielsen to compose music to the poems 'Wo Dætter' and 'Den jenn å den anden'.
