This work presents variations on the opening 13 bars of Katikaze, still in 12/8 meter and
with 8th-note motion throughout. Again, the source sequence -- tribonacci summation in
mod 12 -- determines each measure's initial pitch default, while a non-repeating series
extracted from the current sequence member onward determines the last eleven.
New here is a dual scheme of interval expansion, varying in kind between the outer and
inner series. From 1st-of-bar to next 1st, interval defaults are multiplied by a constant;
within the bar, they are additionally complemented or compounded by a fixed number of
octaves. Each resulting pitch that exceeds the piano range is replaced with a rest.
The score indicates after movement numbers the interval-class expansions (factor;8vas)
for each variation. Despite its often extreme ranges, I have avoided ottava pitch notation,
preferring instead to keep qualitative distances vivid.
