"If this song was written in memory of Donizetti's wife, then it is interesting to note that there are in Italy MSS of the period written for B (Donizetti was a bass-baritone), for example: I-Rsc: MS in E minor; I-Nc: MS score; I-TN: MS score" (Allitt).
