History

Bonifacio Eslava(1829-1882)a violoncellist, professor, music publisher and owner of a piano factory and a music store, founded his publishing firm in 1857. Between 1866 and 1882 la Casa Bonifacio Eslava published many works for piano and sacred organ works. In 1867 he sponsored a composition contest, started a branch in Barcelona and founded the weekly magazine Revista y Gaceta musical (1867-1868).

In 1900, 18 years after Eslava’s death, Casa Dotesio finally bought the company, and Dotesio changed its name to Unión Musical Española in 1914.
