This composition so named a codetta, as an independent piece, is intended for the utilization of practical usage concerning any concert string quartet. Or, as it may be similarly assumed, for aesthetics' sake, this morceau represents a return to the Romantic characterization of the character piece--the habit of making independent anything for internal study.
