It seems, that there are two composers behind the name "Johann Christian Stumpf". The elder one was Christian Stumpff, who wrote chamber music and symphonies for the standard instrumention since 1760 and the next decades: 2 oboes (or flutes), 2 horns and strings. The other one ist Johann Stumpf, who mostly wrote compostions for winds, especially for his instrument, the bassoon. He lived until 1810 or later. (The one who died in 1801 is a certain Ludwig Stumpf, nothing is known about him). It is possible, that Johann is the son of Christian. There is no composition known, which bears both names. In any case the earlier ones are from "Christian Stumpff", the later ones from "Johann Stumpf" or just "Stumpf".
