Youngest of seven brothers many of them also musical. They were known as Die musikalische Siebengestirn (the seven musical brains) around 1840. Two others were Johann Hermann Kufferath (1797—1864) and Louis Kufferath (1811—1882). Born in the Ruhr area, settled in Brussels in 1844. Father of cellist and opera theater director Maurice Kufferath (1852—1919) and singer Antonia Kufferath (1857—1939)
