He graduated from the College of the City of New York in 1910, then worked in music journalism: 'Musical America' from 1910 to 1936. From 1936 to 1956 he was managing director of the Galaxy Music Corp. (Galaxy existed from 1930 to 1989, when it was sold to G. Schirmer.) He left over 300 compositions, including orchestral pieces, choral works, chamber music, piano pieces, and songs.
