In addition to being a piano teacher and composer, Hennes wrote the first guidebooks for local trips from Berlin: „100 Nachmittags-Ausflüge in die Umgegend von Berlin“ 1879. and „32 Ausflüge in die weitere Umgegend von Berlin (Biesenthal, Eberswalde, Chorin, Oderberg, Freienwalde und Buckow)“ 1881
These were later collected in „200 Ausflüge in die Umgegend von Berlin“ (1896). This was later known as „Straube’s Märkisches Wanderbuch“ and was in print until 1929.
