Miscellaneous information
Relation to 18th century artist of the same name? Collett may have been the son of Richard or of Thomas Collett, members of the Royal Society of Musicians in 1739 (John did not join until 1757.) Op.1 is a set of 6 duos for violin and continuo; op.2 is a set of symphonies or overtures, of which no.5, an early example of a 4-movement symphony, has been recorded. He moved to Edinburgh around, and found employment there, in November 1771. Evidence suggests that he died in 1775 (see Schaarwächter.)
