Morten Thomsen Bredsdorff was born into a pastoral family in Funen, Denmark, and later served as a pastor in Jutland, Denmark. Between 1870 and 1904, he compiled and published several hymnbooks through publisher V. Schønemann in Nyborg (Funen), Denmark. Some of these volumes were co-edited with Heinrich von Nutzhorn, featuring also melodies composed by Bredsdorff himself.
