Born in Chorley, Lancashire, England, Baynton-Power wrote mood music for the De Wolfe Music stock library (as did his wife, Olive Turner), some of which appears in 1930s films (eg, the 1937 Sherlock Holmes adventure 'Murder at the Baskervilles'). He later wrote music for film soundtracks, and also taught at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. As well as writing (many) piano pieces and songs, he wrote a primer entitled 'How to Composer Music: A Simple Guide for the Amateur to the Composition of Melodies and to Their Effective Harmonization'.
