Bagge's wife, the pianist Justine Wendelstadt (1825-1908) was the daughter of Carl Friedrich Wendelstadt (1786-1840), a famous artist. was Hermann Levi (letter to Brahms Oct 6th 1865) was convinced, and Brahms agreed, that Bagge, along with Reinecke, was responsible for Breitkopf's refusal to publish his Op.36 sextet.
