Given the estimated date of publication and the low opus number, it seems likely that these were composed by Franz's eldest son Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Benda (1745-1814), who was a violinist at the Prussian court ("Musicien de la chambre de S.M. le roi de Prusse") from 1765. This is the attribution found at RISM and the one followed here until additional information surfaces to the contrary. Another possibility is his cousin Carl Friedrich Franz Benda (1754-1816), who was likewise employed as violinist to the Prussian court from 1779.
His father Franz Benda's title was Premier Violon de Chambre de la Majesté de Roi de Prusse, until 1771, when he became Konzertmeister to the King, and additionally Musical Advisor to the King from 1773. It seems unlikely for Franz Benda that neither of these titles would appear on the title-page of an item issued in Berlin, and a low opus number would also fit with the younger composer.
