Navigation etc.

  • Where string instruments are used, the scoring is 2 violins, violone or theorbo, and organo. For the first mass, which must be intended for a chorus, given the "solo" and "tutti" vocal designations, this would imply string sections, and not individual instruments. The smaller motets could use individual strings.
  • For the works where the strings are labelled "à beneplacito" or "se piace", this indication is not in all of the parts and further, there are sinfonias where the voices are tacet. The implication is that, if strings are not used, the organ would play the sinfonias solo.
