« Array » is composed by order of the "Association Culturelle Tricastine" for the final manifestation of the 10th "Biennale de Guitare" in Saint-Paul Trois Chateaux (Provence, France), April 1995. It has 26 short movements: soli and ensembles for guitar (two up to five guitars). In this work the composer displays at the same time different styles and techniques. That's why next to a solo in a Chuck Berry rock and roll style, three trio's have been written for the acoustic guitar, taken from examples in a jazz-rock didactic book by Herman Beeftink. Minimal music, but also a South-American rumba and a Soleares (flamenco dance) are the framework of a variety of playing in every possible way, which makes the work as a whole very lively. Wim Hoogewerf and the Attaca Guitar Ensemble gave apart from several performances in the Netherlands, a very successful first night in London (Atrium of the Dutch Embassy).

The 26 movements represent the entire guitar 'alphabet' . Each movement can be subject to a separate performance. Thus the instrumentation is as follows: 1(a) Moderato - 5 guitars, 2(b) Allegro - solo guitar, 3(c) Vivace - 4 guitars, 4(d) Andante con moto - 2 guitars, 5(e) L’istesso tempo - 3 guitars, 6(f) Allegro con moto - 3 guitars, 7(g) Largo - 5 guitars, 8(h) Allegro con moto - solo guitar, 9(i) Allegro con modo - 4 guitars, 10(j) Larghetto - 2 guitars, 11(k) Allegro - 2 guitars, 12(l) Andantino - 3 guitars, 13(m) Larghetto - 5 guitars, 14(n) Moderato - solo guitar, 15(o) Andante - 4 guitars, 16(p) Presto - 4 guitars, 17(q) Andante con moto - 2 guitars, 18(r) L’istesso tempo - 3 guitars, 19(s) Larghetto - 5 guitars, 20(t) Andante - solo guitar, 21(u) Larghetto - 5 guitars, 22(v) Vivace - 4 guitars, 23(w) Andante con moto - 2 guitars, 24(x) L’istesso tempo - 3 guitars, 25(y) Allegro - 5 guitars, 26(z) Adagio / Presto - 5 guitars.
